VOCABULARY-Introduce new vocabulary words each week with definitions and sentences illustrating the correct usage of each word, Verify student’s ability to read weekly vocabulary words, Allow students many varied opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge of the weekly vocabulary words (through sentences, pictures, Four Square, etc.)

FLUENCY-Provide several opportunities for each student to verbally read sections of the story, Practice tracking print while others are reading, Recall fluency tips.  Provide weekly reading fluency sheets to practice fluency at home.

COMPREHENSION-Answer who, what, when, where and why questions about the story.  Practice specific skills from the weekly lessons such as identifying characters, setting, plot, problems, and conclusion of the stories.  Sequence events in the story.  Retell sections of the story and or complete the story.

SPELLING-Identify and practice specific spelling patterns in the weekly spelling lessons.
