PHONETIC SKILLS-Build words using phonetic skills

SPELLING-Identify and practice specific spelling patterns in the weekly spelling lessons and the uncommon rules (long e).

FLUENCY-Weekly reading fluency sheets to practice reading fluency at home.  Modeling fluency and choral reading aloud to enhance fluency. Practice reading Basal and other stories for reading fluency.  Build an understanding of reading.

VOCABULARY-Introduce new weekly vocabulary words each week with definitions.  Learn to find the definitions in the glossary.  Create sentences using the vocabulary words.

GUIDED READING-Read Guided Reading books at the proper instructional level.  Identify the vocabulary words in the Guided Reading books.  Answer the comprehension questions at the end of the story.  Share similarities with the class of how this book compares to our Basal story.

ACCELERATED READER-Read for fluency and comprehension at instructional level.  Gain points for understanding and reading the test.

COMPREHENSION-Answer comprehension questions regarding the story such as who, what, when, and why.  Use graphic organizers to show an understanding of the story. 

FOCUS SKILLS-Identify and practice the focus skills in the story such as the genre, plot, setting, etc.
