VOCABULARY- Introduce new vocabulary words each week with definitions and sentences illustrating the correct usage of each word, Verify student’s ability to read weekly vocabulary words, Allow students many varied opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge of the weekly vocabulary words (through sentences, pictures, Four Square, etc.)
FLUENCY-Practice reading plays and stories for fluency. Take one-minute fluency checks to see if fluency improves. Build self-confidence in the students by re-reading the weekly stories.
COMPREHENSION-Answer comprehension questions. Write written answers to the comprehension questions or retell the story in their own words. Find page numbers to prove the answers.
FOCUS SKILLS-Identify and use the focus skill found in the Basal. Learn to find and use information from various resources, identify genre, fact or opinion, etc.
ACCELERATED READER-Increase Accelerated Reader points by reading and taking tests at the child’s instructional level.
